Flix Standard 8.530 Released

Flix Standard 8.530 is now available for Mac and Windows. All users should apply this free upgrade.

Flix Pro 8.530 Released

Flix Pro 8.530 is now available for both Mac and Windows. This version includes support for the VP6-S encoding profile, which can be used to support large frame sizes (HD) on slower CPUs.

Known Issue: Flash Player 9 r115 and Older Flix Versions (Mac)

Older versions of Flix Pro and Flix Standard for the Mac (prior to 8.530) may crash when used with the latest release of the Adobe Flash Player 9 browser plugin (r115). The condition arises when a newly-encoded video is launched for preview, and also when using the View Skin feature in the Create Players dialog.

Flix Pro Mac and Flix Standard Mac users can avoid this issue by upgrading to 8.530.

Version 8.530 resolves the issue by no longer using the Flash Player browser plugin for previews. Instead, 8.530 asks Mac OS to use your default player application for FLV or SWF files. This may be a standalone Flash Player application, Flash Professional authoring tool, or other application.

Workarounds

Mac users who cannot apply the free 8.530 upgrade for some reason might try these workarounds:

  • Revert to a previous build of Flash Player 9 (prior to r115), or any build of Flash Player 8. You may download prior Flash Player releases here: http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14266; or
  • Un-check the Play Output checkbox on the Encoding progress dialog to prevent the video preview crash, and avoid using the View Skin feature of the Create Player dialog.

Flix Engine

The latest release of Flix Engine is able to generate video files that play on the iPhone. There are still some remaining issues, but preliminary support is available in 8.0.10.1.
