This page contains information documenting the steps necessary for removing a Flix Publisher plug-in.
For IE instructions, see Removing a Flix Publisher ActiveX Control from Microsoft Internet Explorer, down below.
As of the v3.0.4.0 Flix Publisher plug-ins release, the Add-ons (extensions) manager should be used to remove the plug-ins. This is usually accessed through selecting the item 'Add ons' from the Tools menu.
Once the Add ons dialog is open, click the plugins button, then right click the plug-in and select uninstall.
For Netscape plug-ins used in Mozilla-compatible browsers, Mozilla documentation advises that the user should manually delete files listed in about:plugins for the plug-in the user desires to remove. You can find more information here: http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/uninstall.html
- Note:
- The removal steps use the
.DLL and .XPT of On2's plug-ins. Your plug-in file names will differ to a degree based upon branding. For example, if your plug-in were called Example Publisher, the file names referred to below would be:
- npon2publish.dll: npexamplepublish.dll
- nsion2publisher.xpt: nsiexamplepublisher.xpt
-
Delete the files
npon2publish.dll
nsion2publisher.xpt
from the following locations: Firefox Plug-in Folder:
%ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\
Flock Plug-in Folder:
%ProgramFiles%\Flock\flock\plugins\
Also remove any instances of the above files from:
Only publisher versions previous to v2.0.2.0 install themselves to this location. %SystemRoot%\system32\on2.com\
-
This step only required if versions of the publisher previous to v2.0.2.0 are being removed.
Delete registry keys that are similar to:
In the following two places: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MozillaPlugins
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MozillaPlugins
The easiest and fastest way to remove a control is to open the run dialog box and enter "c:\windows\Downloaded Program Files", then click OK. Once the Downloaded Program Files folder opens, right click the plug-in you wish to remove, then select Remove.
- Note:
- All Internet Explorer windows should be closed before attempting the above.
- 1. Close all Internet Explorer windows.
- 2. Open a single Internet Explorer window.
- 3. Select Tools->Internet Options.
- 4. Click the Settings button on the General tab.
- Note:
- For IE7, click the settings button in the browsing history grouping.
- 5. Click the View Objects button on the Settings dialog.
- 6. Right-click On2 Publisher, click Remove, click Yes.
- 7. Close the Downloaded Program Files Window.
- 8. Click OK
- The Flix Publisher ActiveX control must not be resident in Internet Explorer when attempting removal. To ensure the control is not loaded, close all Internet Explorer windows and restart Internet Explorer. Do not browse to any page that uses the control before starting the removal procedure.
- The Internet Explorer removal instructions apply only when the ActiveX control was installed in the usual way, via automatic download of the signed .cab file. In the unlikely event that the control was installed manually (using regsvr32.exe on the ActiveX control .dll), the control will not appear in the objects list, and must be unregistered from a command prompt by using regsvr32.exe with the /u parameter. First,
cd into the directory in which the control is located, then: C:\activex_controls> regsvr32 /u control_file_name.dll
