What is JavaFX?

Sun JavaFX logo

JavaFX is Sun Microsystems' family of products for developing rich Internet applications (RIAs). Like Adobe Air, Microsoft Silverlight and similar frameworks, JavaFX seeks to provide a rapid application development environment that's geared toward the many designers and scripters with Web development experience, allowing them to create applications that don't depend on a Web browser.

Because the JaxaFX runtime is cross-platform and cross-device, a JavaFX application can run on desktops, mobile devices, TV and other platforms.

What is On2's participation in JavaFX?

Rich Internet applications are often media-intensive. JavaFX's native video file format, FXM, is composed of On2 VP6 video and MP3 audio.

Do On2 video encoding products support FXM video?

Yes. At this writing, the currently available releases of Flix Engine, Flix Pro and Standard, Flix Exporter and Flix Directshow SDK are able to create FXM video for use in JavaFX projects.

Specific information on accessing the new FXM-creation functions is available here.

Must I learn about JavaFX to continue using my On2 product?

No. Essentially, our products can now create a new, additional kind of video file (FXM) that's natively supported in JavaFX applications. We hope you find this capability useful, and hope you'll explore JavaFX if you're interested in developing rich media applications.
